One of the things we must do when facing into change is to question the stories we tell about ourselves (or our community), what made us what we are, the important events in our lives or history, why we hold certain values or beliefs or maybe episodes in our lives when these values were formed or put to the test. These stories serve a useful purpose. They provide us with a sense of stability and continuity and allow us to pass on those values through storytelling. They help us connect with others and create a sense of belonging in families and communities.
But it is important to remember that they are just stories, based on memory and imagination which as we shall see are often fallible. This is actually good(ish) news, because we know too that some of the stories we tell ourselves actually limit us, do not really help us deal with the complexities of our present situation or simply no longer ring true. In which case it is time to change our story. And that is what this section of the blog is about. How we should go about changing our story, and examples from our readers of how they achieved this, how they managed to change the story of themselves, or their community, from one of restriction to one of possibility. We hope these stories will connect with others and help bring the ideas in this blog to life.
