Facing into change requires intent and an open state of mind. The opposite is denial where, consciously or not, we choose not to see what is happening or deflection where we deliberately direct our attention to other things. The result at best is delayed action or procrastination, a bad version of groundhog day, or at worst a descent into cynicism and hopelessness.
Our first task, therefore, is to see and find the origin of this resistive behaviour not just to eliminate it as we shall see but to get to its root source. Getting in contact with the underlying anxiety or uncertainty which are trying to avoid can not only help us to deal with it but can also be a source of innovation. In Zen terms, the obstacles to change become pathways. The same forces or circumstances that create uncertainty can also drive creativity and innovation.
